Prarthana

A message from Saint Baba Maharaj Arvikar (translated from Marathi):

Prayer is the means through which the inner realm of the heart attains stillness, where remembrance and devotion to the divine naturally arise. But to truly understand why we invoke the all-pervading lord in prayer, we must pour our hearts into it. There must be a divine impulse within—a call for the manifestation of consciousness. The tenderness of a child's cry should reside in our supplication, for only then can spiritual growth take place. When prayer is filled with pure love and serene surrender, the experience of the divine begins to unfold.

Prayer dissolves the disturbances and veils that cloud the heart’s mirror. Such a prayer must happen—not merely be performed. It should arise as a natural expression of the soul; otherwise, discerning the lord’s subtle guidance remains difficult. The divine’s call is meant for the purity of our hearts alone. To cleanse and sanctify the heart should be our sole aspiration. Through prayer, an intense longing must awaken—an awareness of the omnipresence of the divine in every atom of the universe, and a deep compassion for all beings.

The sacred meaning of prayer is granted solely by divine grace. It is through prayer that all hearts can unite as one. Prayer has the power to transform a fallen mind, making it pure and strong. One must pray to establish the divine firmly within and to awaken its infinite strength within the soul.

My Guru’s blessing upon me is that the bliss and divine experiences I receive through this prayer may be shared by all who surrender to it. Thus, with unwavering faith, I assure you that through this sacred prayer, every sincere seeker will, by the grace of the Guru, attain the highest, most intimate joy of the divine. The Guru—the living embodiment of divinity—grants the ultimate revelation at the perfect moment. That is why this prayer is truly a harbinger of universal welfare.

Throughout his life, Saint Baba Maharaj wrote many beautiful prayers. We are still working on translating these into English but, until then, please listen to Saint Baba's prarthana as he recites it in his own divine voice. Even if you cannot understand the words, his voice will undoubtedly leave you mesmerized.

Baba wrote this prarthana as a way to build a relationship with the divine. His voice is that of Omkar, and so, when you listen to it, you will find your own Sadguru reflected in the naad. This prarthana will guide you in devotion and you will be able to develop your own relationship with the divine, no matter which form (roop).

One of Baba's instructions for the prarthana includes keeping a picture of the symbol of Om in front of the disciple. The reason he insisted on 'Om' was to emphasize the all-pervasive and supreme nature of the Sadguru, irrespective of form or sect. We hope that you can greet your Sadguru in this prarthana.
