About Machnur Ashram

For those devotees who, out of love for the bliss of the Atma, renounce worldly pleasures and set forth on the path to realizing the Virat Purusha (cosmic being)—and not just them, but also the earnest householders yearning for the same divine vision—Saint Baba Maharaj established the ‘Mokshadham’ Ashram at Machnur, so they may find, at least for some time, a space of solitude for their spiritual practice.

This ashram stands on a foundation beyond caste, religion, sect, or creed. Here, the presiding presence is that of the all-encompassing, revered divine Guru or Sarvatmak Shri Gurudev, and its defining feature is Sahajata—natural simplicity.

Saint Baba Maharaj speaks about the essence of Machnur’s mission:

"The fundamental principle we have set for Machnur is this—if one seeks the vision of the Virat Purusha, one must first understand life itself. The saints and sages have raised both hands and proclaimed—look towards the nectar of immortality! You can become deathless, you can attain liberation, you can become realized. But to attain true strength, you must first come to know the Virat Purusha.

This is the essence of Machnur—We are devotees of Shri Guru—the Virat Purusha!

I worship Shri Krishna with great joy and devotion. I love Ram-Krishna. I revere them as my Gurudev. The very remembrance of them sends shivers through me, an ecstasy surges within, for that is the deep-rooted Indian spiritual sentiment. They manifest through our very being. Krishna, Ram, and all the divine incarnations—are but the sacred expressions of Shri Guru.

All those with minds inclined toward the divine, all those seeking the lord, should come together here, living with the bare minimum of worldly dependencies. Their way of life should be one of self-sufficiency, earned through their own efforts. In doing so, they will have ample time for the worship of Shri Guru, for invoking the divine within.

Spiritual practice should be effortless and natural. If the path leading to god is truly divine, then even in the smallest of a seeker’s actions, the divinity within must shine forth. Machnur must be a place of continuous spiritual practice.

Our very dharma is rooted in Sadhana (spiritual practice). At Machnur, we have embraced a natural path of practice, where all traditions of devotion are welcomed—for devotion itself is a spontaneous outpouring of the soul.

The one sacred mission we must fulfill through Machnur is the cultivation of goodness/virtue and the nurturing of saintliness. That alone is our highest and most auspicious endeavor."
