Sadhaka! Be mindful!

60 guiding principles provided by Saint Baba Maharaj on how a spiritual practitioner engaged in spiritual work and sadhana should conduct themselves.

1

Minimize your needs.

2

Remain adaptable to the circumstances around you.

3

Do not have a dependency on any possession or person.

4

Whatever you have, share it equally with others.

5

Always be ready to serve others. Do not miss even a single opportunity to serve with a selfless heart.

6

Keep your mind absorbed in the state of surrender (akartabhav) and self-awareness.

7

Speak few words, and let them be sweet.

8

Keep a burning desire in your heart to understand the divine.

9

Forget your attachment to material possessions and surrender to the divine.

10

A Guru is essential for surrendering completely to the divine.

11

Be extremely patient and persistent.

12

Never skip your daily spiritual practice.

13

Although the Guru will guide the way, you must walk the path yourself.

14

Life is very short. Death can come at any moment. Study and practice spirituality with great dedication.

15

Maintain a daily journal for your moral and spiritual progress. Record your growth and mistakes with complete honesty.

16

Do not complain about not having enough time for spiritual practice. Reduce sleep and unnecessary talking. Always practice during the Brahma Muhurta (early morning before sunrise, typically 3:30 - 5:00 AM).

17

Deeply imprint thoughts of the divine or truth in your mind such that you forget the world.

18

Forget your identity as a particular individual. Similarly, through deep contemplation on the Supreme, distance yourself from identity markers like gender.

19

If something can be done today, do not postpone it for tomorrow.

20

Do not take pride in your abilities and achievements, nor flaunt them. Always remain humble and peaceful.
